The DMCA mandates the removal of a contested work pending review, to preserve the archive's indemnity against a potential infringement claim. It's a clumsy system, but it's what is now in place. It's unfortunate that the DMCA process has not yet been amended to make it less susceptible to the fraudulent copyright claims that have been made against the feature film collections here.
